Primordial Garden II - 2006 Installed at the Wesley Mater Hospital
Primordial Garden was originally painted by John Coburn in 1966. Forty years later Dr. Linda Ashton collaborated with the Coburns to allow JCU Education students to cretae a mosaic tribute to this timeless piece. Placement in the hospital environment meant significant colour changes but the shapes are instantly recognisable as Coburn's. The students experimented with many Photoshop variations before settling on the blue, magenta, pink and silver scheme. A water colour painting of coconuts by renowned local artist, the late Del Baldock of "Under the Mango Tree" fame, was the inspiration for the hospital's new grey/blue colour renovation.
